After Independence Gujarat region was part of Bombay state, later the demand for seperate state emerged based on language "Gujarati" and on May 1960 two new states were created Gujarat and Maharashtra

  1. Our father of Nation "Mahatma Gandhi" was born in Gujarat

  2. Gandhinagar is the capital of Gujarat

  3. Gujarat has the longest coastline in India among all territories

  4. Tropic of Cancer passes through this state

  5. Lothal - Harappan site & ancient port is in Gujarat

  6. Amul known for milk revolution is in Gujarat

  7. Asiatic lions are currently found only in Gir forest national park


Major Concerns

  1. Gujarat is ranked 21st in HDI among all Indian territories

  2. Poor child sex ratio as per census 2011 and ranked 24th among all Indian territories

  3. Less availability of talent pool for service sector

  4. Gujarat ranked 4th in most polluted rivers in our country


Measures can be taken

  1. Measures to improve education through public and private players will help in improving the HDI of the state

  2. Water treatment, recycling and waste water mangement help to reduce river pollution considerably

  3. Government initiatives to promote female child will be a way forward

  4. Skilling youths with software skills based on market demand will make them more employable
