"The Evolution of the Indian National Song: A Look into its History, Facts, and Cultural Provisions"

Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875 to praise "Mother India" while he was serving as district collector, it was published in Bangla fiction novel "Anandamath" in 1882. It was adopted as our national song by our constituent assembly on 24th January 1950

There is not a provision for our national song in our constitution, So it is not the national ideal covered under Part IVA 51A(a), however it was equally honoured with national anthem


Some interesting facts about our national song

  1. It was originally written in Sanskrit and Bangla langauage

  2. Jadunath Bhattacharya was the first to compose the song, it was later re-composed by AR Rahman, Lata Mangeshwar and Ravi Shankar

  3. It was first sung by Rabindranath Tagore during INC Session 1896 in Calcutta

  4. In original song there were six stanzas but first two stanzas were officially adopted as national song

  5. During BBC Poll in 2002, it was chosen as second most popular song in the world

  6. English version was translated by Aurobindo bosh
