Earlier Jharkhand region was called as Kukara, during 1765 it came under control of British and later known as Jharkhand which means land of bushes (Jharis), most of the Jharkhand is filled with more green cover so it is also called as land of forests


Jharkhand is home to many tribals and people of this region dreamed of a separate state for very long time. After independence tribes of this region received less socio-economic benefits, to address their concerns and give special focus Jharkhand was carved from Bihar in 2000

  1. Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand, however largest city is Jamshedpur

  2. Dhanbad in Jharkhand is known as "Coal capital of India"

  3. It is known for resources uranium, coal, copper, gold, bauxite & iron

  4. Santhal rebellion known for historically important event happened in Jharkhand

  5. Tropic of Cancer passes through Jharkhand

  6. Rivers Damodar, Mayurakshi and Barakar passes through this state

  7. Most of the Jharkhand state lies over chhotanagpur plateau

  1. Improved resettlement policy & framework for tribes addressing their core concerns on the backdrop of livelihood & shelter of tribal population and approving projects after consultation mechanism with tribes help to protect & manage the displacement issues among tribes

  2. Capital infusion, Technology transfer & Skill up-gradation help to tap the potential of Jharkhand in sericulture sector, currently tasar silk made in Jharkhand is exported to countries like US, UK, Germany, France, Turkey, Japan, Australia, Sweden and Switzerland

  3. Jharkhand consists of 40% mineral resources of India, government support measures on investment opportunities, mining & exploration equipments, refining equipments and transportation equipments help to achieve GDP contribution from the region

  4. Dialogues, Economic encouragement to tribal communities & choosing representatives among naxal groups in democratic lines help to deal with naxal groups.
