Manipur means Jewel and Pure, the modern name came into existence after the reign of King Meidingu Pamheiba


Manipur became princely state under British rule in 1891, this region was also known for battles of Second World War between Japanese and Allied forces


After our Independence Manipur region became union territory in 1956 and attained full-fledged statehood in 1972
