The present-day region of Chennai acted as important place for British settlement. It is known for Fort St. George which was built during 1640


In the year 1640 British East India Company opened trading post in Madrasapatnam, this region later emerged as Madras Presidency which covered Tamil as well as Telugu population


After our Independence, Andra state was created on linguistic lines in the year 1953, which increased the demand for many new state creations on linguistic basis. Later based on state reorganization act 1956 Madras state was created on linguistic basis and the state got its present name Tamil Nadu in 1969

Measures can be taken

  1. Encouraging the culture of water re-use, awareness on wise use of water in daily needs, promotion of water optimization technologies, construction of aqueducts and reservoirs and cost-effective desalination plants helps to solve water scarcity

  2. GEMINI (Gagan enabled Mariner's instrument for Navigation and information) is the instrument developed by India to assist fishermen on Potential fishing zones, Weather forecast and disaster warnings. Promotion of this instrument in great scale helps to reduce fishermen issue in India

  3. The following solutions can be taken to address the issues of red corridor region i) enhancement of monitoring systems in Naxalite areas, ii) development initiatives to win popular support and iii) improving road infrastructure & helipads in strategic areas helps to mobilize security personnels

  4. Effective waste collection mechanisms in urban and rural areas and periodic monitoring and analysis by government officials on river cleaning projects and river rejuvenation projects helps to reduce river pollution
