After India's independence men's hockey team won World Cup for first time in 1975.
Hockey India is the sole official organization responsible for promoting field hockey in India for both men and women which work under Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs. Earlier from 1925-2008 India had Indian Hockey federation for governing field hockey in India.
Another important fact to note here is hockey is not a national game of India, also officially India don't recognize any game as national game
